Obituary - PTE. G. W. MAWHINNEY.

Mrs. G. W. Mawhinney, of Tucabia, was notified on Saturday by the Minister for the Army that her husband, Pte. G. W. Mawhinney, A.I.F., died of wounds on May 4. The Minister expressed his sincere sympathy. Pte. Geoff Mawhinney was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Mawhinney, of Ulmarra, and the grandson of Mrs. M. Penton, of Ulmarra. Soon after joining the armed forces, he married Miss Noreen Falconer, the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Falconer, of Tucabia. Geoff was a member of the famous Ninth Division, and was a boy thought very highly of in Ulmarra. He was held in high regard for his quiet and excellent behaviour. He joined the A.I.F. a little over three years ago. – The Daily Examiner, Grafton, issue dated Monday May 14, 1945.
