John McBRATNEY was born in Narrandera, NSW on 1st July, 1923

His parents were John Wallace McBRATNEY & Ethel Molyneux ROYDS who married in Sydney in 1918

He also served with the 34th Infantry Battalion (SN N169212)

His Obituary from the Riverina Grazier Newspaper on 11th May, 1945 reads -

"Private John McBratney

The sad news was received on Tuesday by Mr. & Mrs. J.W. McBratney of Toganmain that their elder son, Pte John McBratney, who has been serving in an infantry battalion, had been killed in action on 1st May.

The deceased lad was aged 21 and spent his childhood at Toganmain.

He was educated at the Kings School, Parramatta and been engaged in pastoral work on Gurley Station Moree, before his enlistment

He saw a period of service of nine months in New Guinea but recently had been back in Australia, before embarking on the expedition in which he met his death.

Much sympathy has been expressed for his father and mother and his brother and sister"
