Son of William Daniel Patrick O'Brien and Jane Caroline O'Brien of 'Rosebank', Gilmore near Tumut, NSW.

Brother of Orlando Thomas Lockyer O'Brien who was killed in action on 8 June 1917 while serving with the 35th Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on Panel 25 of the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres

Husband of Leila Olga O'Brien of 'Strathmore', Victoria Street, Pott's Point, NSW later of the Gilmore Hotel, Tumut, NSW.
