Three brothers-in-arms

Robert was one of three brothers who joined the RAAF and flew missions from England. Sgt Willaim ''Bill'' McQuitty flew 17 missions with 78 Sqn RAF Bomber Command between May and July 1941 before his Whitley crashed in the North Sea due to serious damage sustained on a raid to attack Hamm in Germany. His body was never recovered; he was aged 20 (service number 4008014). The third brother, David, was a Lancaster pilot who survived the war.
