Son of Henry Arthur and Jane May Mengel of Mackay, QLD
Plane was Lancaster NG 116 which was hit by anti - aircraft fire at about 10.30pm and exploded mid-air
School subjects passed - English, French, Geography, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Bookkeeping, Steno-typing
In December 1937 he passed a scholarship examination for the Queensland University passing in the subjects English, Mathmatics, Geography and History wih an average mark of 71.4%.
From April 1940 to November 1940 he studied Bookkeeping and Accounting in the evenings at the Queensland Universsity passing with at Credit
