Martin James John MERRIE was born on 15th February, 1916 in Subiaco, Western Australia
His parents were James Martin MERRIE and Vera May McCARTHY who married in 1913 in Victoria
He had previous service 1 CAY Div AASC, Corporal 1 CAY DV, Corporal Motor Div. , Sergeant 114th GT Co. before he enlisted on 1st June 1943 with the Australian Army - he was a Sergeant with the 146 General Transport Company
Martin died from injuries received in a Motor accident on 12th September, 1944 (skull fracture, fractured femur & other injuries) and is buried in Sydney War Cemetery (Part of Rookwood Cemetery) in Sydney - he was awarded the War Medal and the Australian Service Medal - he is listed on the Australian War Memorial & the Roll of Honour in Ashfield, Sydney
