Private Francis Joseph Moroney (Service No:NX1842) enlisted in the AIF on 29 May 1940. Private Moroney and his older brother Clem (Corporal; Service No:NX34135) served with 2/1 Pioneer Battalion in the Middle East (30 September 1940 - 1 April 1942) and New Guinea (28 August 1942 until his death on 23 September 1943).
Frank was born in Guildford, Sydney, New South Wales in 1919, youngest of six children of Clement Leo Bede Moroney (b1889 in Sydney, New South Wales) and Agnes Bishop Crum (b1889 in Sydney, New South Wales). Clement and Agnes married in 1911 in Sydney, where they settled and raised their family and Clement worked as a Tram Conductor and Bricklayer. Clement served in the Army in both WWI (Private; Service No:3077) and WWII (Private; Service No:N333967).
Frank worked as a Labourer in Sydney before enlisting in the Army.
