INFORMATION
William Alexander Norris enlisted with the AIF on the 29th of November 1915 and was allocated to C Company 35th Battalion AIF in January 1916 when the Battalion was raised in Newcastle and he became an original member of the Battalion and embarked from Sydney onboard HMAT A24 "Benalla" on the 1st of May 1916 and was appointed Lance Corporal on the 14th of May during the voyage.
He disembarked with his Battalion at Plymouth England on the 9th of July where he was marched to the 9th Training Battalion at the Durrington Army Camp at Lark Hill where he commenced his training for overseas deployment and after months of training proceeded overseas for France on the 21st of November 1916. William was promoted to Corporal on the 9th of September to complete the Battalion's establishment. The 35th Battalion were apart of the offencive at Messines on the 7th of June where William assisted in leading his platoon.
