OBITUARY
Capt (Temp-Maj) A. W. Pickett, who died from injuries received in a road accident in Northern Territory on April 19, was well known in Melbourne in military and Masonic circles. In the last war he served with 7th Battalion, A.I.F, and was wounded on Gallipoli. Returning to his unit, he fought in France until gassed on Christmas Day, 1917, and after passing through PT school at Aldershot again rejoined his unit. He remained in England on demobilisation duties, and returned to Australia in October, 1919.

Early in 1920 he was appointed to the Permanent Forces (AIC), and served at Horsham, Hamilton, Adelaide (SA), and with MUR, Royal Melbourne, Victorian Scottish, and City of Geelong regiments, and at Victoria Barracks as BSM. He was commissioned on November 1, 1938, and returned to Geelong as adjutant and QM. He went to NT with a Victorian infantry battalion, and was appointed camp commandant. At the time of his death he was an area commandant. He is survived by a widow and two daughters, who live at Geelong.
