Thomas Gillis (Gillies) Wynne was born on 10 October 1891 at Colac, the son of Dr Joseph Gillis Wynne and Amy Louise nee Page.
He was enrolled as a boarder at Geelong College in 1909 by Dr Wynne of Colac. He later entered Ormond College, Melbourne University, where he graduated MB BS in 1911.
