Son of Frank(Frank) Augustus Hook and Ellen Hook of Wentworth Falls, NSW.

Brother of Augustus James Hook who returned to Australia on 14 February 1918  having served in the 1st Battalion

On 2 July 1919 Arthur married Mary Ramsay Leishman in the Lochgelly Parish, Scotland. Minister William MacLeod officiated.

Commenced return to Australia on 1 August 1919 aboard HT Ayrshire disembarking on 22 September 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
