Son of Cyril Melbourne Roe and Jennie Roe of Benalla, Victoria
RAAF Vultee Vengeance aircraft A27-76 from Number 1 Aircraft Depot Laverton was performing as part of an aerial display over Flemington racecourse when it experienced difficulties and crashed into houses on McCauley Street in North Melbourne - both crew were killed: Flight Lieutenant Roe DFC 400488 (Pilot) & Pilot Officer Harris 400432 (Observer)
FLTLT Roe was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for his operational skill against the enemy in the SWPA while flying with 30SQN - he is mentioned in the book “Coomalie Charlie’s Commandos - 31 Squadron RAAF Beaufighters at Darwin 1942-43”
