Parents: - Harold Francis Walton Rutherford and Elsie Alice Mary Cowling married July 1919 in Luton, Bedfordshire, United Kingdom.
Sergeant John Maurice “Rusty” Rutherford never married he died of cardiac beri-beri at Chungkai Hospital Camp having been evacuated from Burma-Thai Railway with ‘D’ Force Thailand V Battalion on the 13th October 1943. He was promoted to Sergeant posthumously. His promotion was approved on 12th February 1942 by his Commanding Officer. At the time of his death his rank was considered to be Corporal, but after the surrender of the Japanese, documentation was recovered indicating the promotion to Sergeant.
