PEACEFULLY SLEEPING IN GOD'S CARE

William John Salter was 27 and working as a Motor Mechanic when he enlisted in the RAAF on 20 November 1940.  He completed recruit training in Pearce, WA and then started as a Rigger and Flight Rigger, serving at numerous locations until 1942 when he re-mustered to a Fitter.  He was promoted to Corporal and posted to 7 OTU at Tocumwal in August 1944.

After stand down one Friday evening William attended a dance in Berrigan and around 2.30am was travelling back to Tocumwal on the back of a vehicle.  He was seen to lose his balance and fall from the vehicle.  Corporal Salter died at the scene on 2 September 1944.  He was married with one son.
