LAC Jack Hyland Harvey 25761 and AC1 Ronald Bruce Squelch 25242 were killed when a civilian passenger bus and American army service vehicle 4133333 collided on Three Mile Bridge between Ipswich and Amberley aerodrome. The bus driver (Mr Jowett) was killed instantly, the driver of the American vehicle (Private Johnnie Perdue of 1954 Quartermaster Company, Camp Columbia, Wacol Queensland) was held in police custody.
