Flight Lieutenant Eric Robert Staley 401679 was killed when Boomerang A46-134 of 4SQN RAAF crashed into a hill while on an artillery reconnaissance flight in the Gevaria River Valley / Mount Kubari area in New Guinea
The aircraft was located by a commando unit and he was buried on the spot as there was reported evidence of Japanese being in the area
