Lest We Forget
Story told to me by my mother
Len was up in the Cessnock area just before being deployed overseas
He kissed her outside the front gate, with rain was falling off his slouch hat, but she was told to go inside by her mother, most probably due to her age.
Worried that he might be KIA he asked his mate Percy to take some dark chocolates and a five-pound note to her if this happened.
Heartbroken the news arrived when his mate called in to see her.
He has never been forgotten.
I relay this story as a small insight and sign of respect to one soldier who was never to return, never marry or have a family. RIP Len.
Lest We Forget.
