Bishop’s Son, Killed
SYDNEY, Wednesday.—Wing Commander James Cecil Stevenson, son of Bishop W. H. Stevenson, of Grafton, is believed to have been killed in an aircraft accident in Victoria yesterday. Wing  Commander Stevenson, who was attached to Laverton R.A.A.F. station, was to have been married in Melbourne next Saturday to Miss Joan Lewis, formerly a section officer in the W.A.A.A.F., and  daughter of Dr. Lewis, of Melbourne. Bishop Stevenson said today he had been advised that his son was flying solo when his machine crashed into the sea. His body had not been recovered early today.
Wing Commander Stevenson was educated at Southport School and Queensland University, where he took two degrees. He was a member of the Brisbane Aero Club before join ing the R.A.A.F. in 1939.

In 1944, Right Reverend William Henry Webster Stevenson established the James Cecil Stevenson Memorial Prize at the University of Queensland in memory of his son, James. James studied a Bachelor of Arts (Honours Mathematics) and a Bachelor of Science at UQ and gave his life to his country in 1944 as Wing Commander in the Royal Australian Air Force.
