Son of Leslie E. J. Tatterson and Agnes Carlyle Tatterson, of Newry, Victoria.
"GREAT AND NOBLE DEEDS. BELOVED BY ALL"
Capt Leslie Vincent Tatterson, 27, has been killed in action in New Guinea. Capt Tatterson, whose parents Live in the Maffra district, went to the Middle East in 1940. In August, 1942, he returned to Australia with the rank of lieutenant. He was posted to New Guinea, where he received his captaincy.
Vince was fatally wounded by an enemy sniper on August 4, 1943 at the Old Vickers Ridge during the battle of Salamaua in New Guinea. (Aged 27)
He is buried in Plot R.C. 13; Lae War Cemetery & Memorial,
Papua New Guinea
Served in 1940 in Cairo; Crete; Palestine; Ceylon; then Papua New Guinea
In August 1943 he was recommended for a Military Cross for
“Inspiring leadership & Grim Determination” against heavy enemy attacks on May 9-11, 1943, at Lababia Ridge. The medal was presented to Nana at Government House, Melbourne on March 30, 1946.
