Biography contributed by David Barlow

Flying Officer Vincent Maxwell Thomas 400944 was killed when Mustang KH615 of 3SQN RAAF crashed while attacking the Alfonsine road bridge near Mestre, Italy

Flight Lieutenant Hodgkinson led a formation of ten aircraft to attack the road bridge which was bombed along the centre resulting in two direct hits that demolished all of the southern span and most of the centre span. Flying Officer Thomas was hit by flak and went into a spin after bombing, his aircraft crashed into a minefield.

After the German surrender in May 1945 Padre Fred McKay searched for the crash site and conducted a proper burial service for Vincent Thomas
