Son of Herbert George and Helene Therese Tymms; husband of Louisa Marion Tymms, of Elsternwick, Victoria, Australia. M.D.

Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander Eric Mortimer Tymms, of the RAN., has been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, according to private advice received in Perth yesterday. He is the son of Dr. H. G. and Mrs. Tymms, of West Perth. His wife and three children are living in Melbourne. Lieutenant-Commander Tymms was born in Perth 36 years ago. He was educated at Hale School and Melbourne  University, from which he graduated in 1927, subsequently obtaining his M.D. degree. He was superintendent of the Children's Hospital, Melbourne, for three years and senior surgical registrar of the  Royal Melbourne Hospital for four years. A member of the R.A.N. Reserve, he was called up at the outbreak of war and since then has served continuously in ships of the R.A.N. in various theatres of war,  including the Mediterranean during the campaigns in Greece and Crete.

Surgeon Lt-Cdr Eric Mortimer Tymms, DSC, RANR, was in the Naval Reserve for several years before the war. He was called up 2 weeks before war was declared, and has been serving continuously ever since. He was awarded the DSC for service at Crete in the Canberra and was later transferred to the Perth. For several years he was medical superintendent of the Children's Hospital. His home is at Glendra rd., Elsternwick. His wife is the youngest daughter of Archdeacon Lambie and there are 3 children. He is a native of Perth, where he began his education, which was completed at Ormond  College. He was promoted to his present rank in January, 1941.
