Flight Lieutenant John Hudson Wilkinson 400444 was reported missing in August 1944 aboard RAF 83 Squadron Lancaster PB249 - the target was Zielkeim in East Prussia (Germany)

His body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Runnymede (Air Forces) Memorial, Surrey, England

In October 1942 he was on board Wellington HX775 which crash-landed on Las Palmas Island in the Canary Islands - the crew were interned by Spanish authorities until March 1943 - the other RAAF crewmen were Sergeant Hubert Edward Maxwell Howell 400304 who was discharged in May 1945 with the rank of Flying Officer & Sergeant Donald Drew Gardner 416257 who was discharged in March 1945 with the rank of Flying Officer
