While undertaking flying training in Centralia, Ontario, Canada, Gordon was confined to barracks for seven days from 27 June 1943 when he was found "Guilty of neglect which resulted in damage to one of His Majesty's aircraft:  while practising solo exercises in Anson 7360 allowed himself to carry out a landing striking a fence and damaging the aircraft to the extent of approximately $6,000."
