GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS. EVER REMEMBERED
The sad news was received on Monday by Mr. and Mrs Hector Wilson, of Bungey, Gilgandra, that their eldest son, Private Roy Hector Wilson, had died from wounds received in action at Balikpapan, Borneo, on July 18. Last Friday his parents were advised that he had been wounded and was on the seriously ill list, and later the sad news came to hand. Thus passes one of the young men of the district whom we can ill afford to lose.
Enlisting in December, 1942, the deceased saw three years service and was amongst the heaviest of the fighting when the Japs were pushed back in New Guinea. With the 7th Division he was in the thick of the fighting when the Australians landed in Borneo with other Gilgandra lads in Spuddy Noonan and Mel Johnson.
Before enlisting, the deceased worked on his father's property, having been born and educated in Gilgandra. He leaves two sisters and a younger brother, and to these and his sorrowing parents genuine sympathy is extended.
