Frank Leslie Smith was born in February 1981 in Jamestown, South Australia. Before fighting in the war, he worked as a labourer.
He embarked as a private on the HMAT Runic on the 19th of February 1915 to join the 10th battalion, at 21 years old. On the 25th of June 1916 Smith was promoted to corporal. Not long after this on the 13th of August he was wounded, but not hospitalized. Frank took leave during August 1917 to marry Harriette Madeline Alexander. He was wounded again 2 years later, on the 10th of May 1918, then hospitalized on the 22nd. On the 26th of December 1916.
Frank Leslie Smith was rewarded the 1914/15 Star, Victory Medal and a British War Medal
