5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen

John Henry Anderson was born in 1881 near Gladstone in Queensland. He anglicised his family name from Andersen to Anderson. His father, Lara Andersen was a stockman, who had migrated from Denmark. He was 28 when John was born. Not long after Lara's 1880 marriage. John's mother, Rebecca Louisa Andersen (nee Millard) was 18 when their son John Henry Andersen was born.

John volunterred for Boer War Service. It is likely that he got his ability to ride and shoot from his father. John made the cut for the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent. Sadly, he was KIA in 1901. John fell in his first month of war service in the Transvaal.

PTE John Henry Anderson [157] 5QIB was buried in the Polokwane Old Cemetery, Capricorn District, Limpopo, South Africa. His family in Queensland recieved his effects. That included his New Testament.
