THE LATE PRIVATE W. DUGDALE.
A MEMORIAL service for the late Private W. Dugdale, of the 7th battalion of Commonwealth Horse, was held at the Methodist Church, Monkland, on Sunday afternoon last (says the "Gympie Truth" of the 20th ultimo). It will be remembered that Private Dugdale died on board the troop-ship Custodian from ulcer when within 350 miles of Durban. Members of B company, together with some of the returned contingenters, paraded at the church in honour of their deceased comrade, and there was a large congregation present.
The service was conducted by the Rev. H. Youngman, D.D., who delivered an able and impressive sermon, in the course of which he referred to the cost of the late war - not only in cash but in the loss of valuable lives of men who had fought and fallen for the Empire. The deceased, he said, had won marked respect by his excellent conduct and stirling good qualities duringhis short military career; and had previously shown his courage by standing forth as a soldier of Christ. The deceased had been a prominent member of the Methodist Church for some four years.
