21 Jun 1901: Discharged Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Private, 279, 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, AWM Boer War Unit Details, Murray p. 465 notes 3rd QMI embarked 9 May 1901 at Cape Town aboard Morayshire returning to Australia arriving Sydney 7 Jun 1901 (rail to Brisbane), disbanded 21 Jun 1901.

Thomas Flint served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private S.N. 279 in the 3rd Queensland Imperial Bushmen, and second as a Private S.N. 648 in the 6th Imperial Bushmen. He was killed in action during his second serviceon 3 Feb 1902. Newspaper reports originally indicated he was taken prisoner, along with one other of his unit, and executed, however later reports indicate he was killed in action. (source AWM Boer War Nominal Roll, Murray p. 472, 518 and 541).
