DEATH OF A QUEENSLAND
TROOPER.
We regret to record the demise of Trooper Alfred Katting, sixth son of Mr. George Katting, Middle Ridge, from enteric fever at Elandsfontein, South Africa, on the 27th June. Trooper Katting was a fine young fellow of much promise, and was only 24 years of age. He joined the First Queensland Commonwealth Contingent to South Africa, but had not been long in the country when he fell a victim to an attack of enteric.
Naturally of a good constitution, it was thought he would pull through, but the sad news was conveyed to his friends on Tuesday evening by Lieut.-Col. Aytoun that he had succumbed to the attack on last Friday. We tender our sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their sore affliction.
