Douglas Morton Lyne (Sergeant)
My Great-Great Uncle, 3rd-Great Uncle to James Marshall and Joshua Marshall.
Shipped off to the Boer War in the Fifth Contingent (Second Imperial Bushmen) in February 1901.
Mentioned in Despatches by Lord Kitchener on 8th December 1901. His unit was being mobilised to return home, but on the 26th April 1902 he was removed from the troop train at Norval's Point, seriously ill with Enteric Fever, and passed away on the 4th of May 1902.

Biography
Douglas Morton LYNE was born on 26th May, 1877 in Coombend, Glamorgan, Tasmania
His parents were Harry LYNE and Sarah Lillias HUME
He enlisted with the 2nd Tasmanian Imperial Bushmen - The contingent embarked from Hobart on the transport ship Chicago on 27th March, 1901 and arrived at Port Elizabeth on 24th April - he enlisted as a Trooper and was promoted up the ranks to Quartermaster Sergeant
On 22nd April 1902 he went to join other Tasmanians who were mobilizing to return home. On 26th April he was removed from the troop train at Norvals Point suffering from enteric fever - he succumbed on 4th May, and was buried the following day
He is buried in Colesberg Cemetery, South Africa
