Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When John Malcolm enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as George Malcolm, Invergarry, Scotland. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, p. 195, it notes following John's death in South Africa the balance of his pay was to be forwarded to his father Goerge Malcolmn, Invergarry, Scotland.

John Malcolm was born in 1866 at Invergarry, Scotland, a son to George Malcolm and his mother's maiden name was Carmichael. A newspaper report on his death from enteric fever in South Africa in the Morning Post (Cairns), 26 Jul 1901, noted prior to embarking he had been resident at Aloomba, where he had been a partner with Mr G. L. Brackenbury, cane farmer. Following his death he was interred at the Primrose Cemetery, South Africa, with his grave marked with a headstone- see find a grave link.
