Sergeant William Sanderson Regimental Number 307, served in the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen in the Boer War. He passed away on 9.7.1901 at KwaZulu-Natal, Amajuba, Newcastle, South Africa of Enteric Fever (Typhoid).

The headstone says “In Memory of WILLIAM eldest son of GEORGE & ELIZABETH SANDERSON a Sergeant in the 5th Queensland Contingent who died at Newcastle South Africa from enteric fever July 9th 1901 aged 30 years erected by his mother.”

This memorial headstone is located in the Stanwell Cemetery 25km West of Rockhampton in Central Queensland Australia

William Sanderson is buried in one of the graves marked by an unnamed cross.  The War Memorial "In Memory of The Soldiers of the Queen" erected by Alexander J. Forbes-Leith can also be seen in the Cemetery in Newcastle, Natal, South Africa. (photo attached).

Sergeant William Sanderson was the brother of my Great grandmother Margaret Sanderson.  The photos you see on this page of the memorial headstone were taken by myself.
