James David SLOAN was born on 18th April, 1867 in Norwood, South Australia

His parents were Walter Stewart SLOAN and Jane Elizabeth FOLLETT

He died of shock in the Military Hospital in Cape Town following an operation for a compound fracture of his femur following after he fell off a horse

He died at the Military Hospital in Cape Town on 1st January, 1901 and is buried in Maitland Cemetery in Cape Town, South Africa

DEATH OF A SOUTH AUSTRALIAN BUSHMAN.

His Excellency the Governor has received a cable message from Sir Alfred Milner, stating that Trooper J. D. Sloan, of the South Australian Bushmen's Contingent, had died at Cape Town on January 1, the cause of death being compound fracture of the thigh. Mr. W. Sloan, father of the deceased, lives in Kermode-street, North Adelaide.

DEATHS

SLOAN. — On the 1st January, at Cape Town, Trooper J. D. Sloan, of the South Australian Bushmen's Corps, second beloved son of Walter S. and Elizabeth Sloan, of Kermode-street, North Adelaide, aged 33 years. Respected by all who knew him.
