Biography contributed by Annalies Nutley
Brendan Francis Coupe was born as John Andrew Osmond to parents Victor Cecil Osmond and Isabel Gladys Harper, in Paddington, NSW. He was born on the 3rd July 1942 in Paddington, NSW, and the following year, on the 12th November 1943 he was adopted by Edgar Francis Coupe and his wife Grace, who were living at no. 29 Park Avenue, Neutral Bay, NSW, at the time.
At the age of 3 Brendan went with his adopted parents when they adopted another child, this time a baby girl. The story goes that Edgar and Grace adopted the little baby that Brendan went up and kissed. She was only weeks old and was raised as Julie Ann Coupe.
Brendan was admitted to the Carlingford Boys Home in 1950, and sister Julie Ann went to the Parramatta Girls Home, with both spending two years there. Afte this they moved to Brisbane with their adopted parents Edgar and Grace, and both Brendan and Julie spent some time at Grovely State School.
