Frederick George HAMERSLEY was born on 20th July, 1929 in Georgina, Western Australia

His parents were Astley Bertram Cornelis HAMERSLEY and Wilhelmina Mary Isobel Flora NORTH who married in 1920 in Perth, WA

Korean War Details

3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment from 30th May, 1951 to 3rd June 1952

1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment from 27th May, 1965 to 7th June, 1966

Australian Army Training Team, Vietnam from 26th September, 1967 to 30 May, 1968 - his last rank was listed as Warrant Officer

Frederick died when leading a company of Montagnard troops to help a US Truck convoy which had been ambushed by North Vietnamese Forces - he was caught in a second North Vietnamese ambush only 400 years from the US Convoy.

An Australian Army spokesman said that Warrant Officer Hamersley had returned the same day from leave in Hong Kong to his base at a remote hill outpost, 30 miles south west of the provincial capital of Da Nang.  He was killed by gunshot wounds in the operation in enemy convoy in Quang Nam.

Fredericks name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial , the Vietnam War Memorial in Grafton, NSW and there is a memorial headstone in the Karrakatta Cemetery in Western Australia

His father Astley  HAMERSLEY (SN516) served in WW1 in the 10th Light Horse - last rank was Lieutenant and also served in WW2 (SN W26727) he died in 1944

Fredericks brother Hugo Astley HAMERSLEY served in WW2 (SN WX16942) and was discharged in 1946.

His sister Emily Ann HAMERSLEY served in WW2 in the RAAF  (SN 113583)
