Corporal Leonard Douglas Bradford (Service No:QX34166) initially enlisted in the Militia (Sapper; Service No:Q7314) and served with 11th Light Horse Regiment from 11 December 1938 to 13 September 1941. He enlisted in the AIF on 23 September 1941 with 11 Motor Regiment and transferred to 2nd/10th Infantry Battalion on 4 July 1943. Corporal Bradford served in New Guinea (9 August 1943 - 17 June 1944) and Borneo (29 May 1945 - 19 November 1945) and was awarded a Mention in Dispatches on 9 March 1945 'for exceptional service in the field in New Guinea). Corporal Bradford was Discharged on 28 November 1945 - three of his brothers and a sister also served in WWII.
Born in 1917 at Mt Colliery nr Killarney in QLD, Leonard was the fifth of nine children of Alfred Ernest Bradford (b1884 at Farm Creek, Tannymorel, QLD) and Nellie Maude Francis (b1883 in Warwick, QLD). Alfred (a Farmer) and Nellie married in 1909 and settled at Tannymorel on the Darling Downs in QLD where they raised their family and Alfred was a Farmer.
Leonard was a Timber Worker at Mt Colliery nr Killarney on the Darling Downs in QLD when he enlisted in the Army. In 1946 in Warwick, QLD he married Dulcie Catherine Fischer (b1922 at Killarney, QLD). Leonard and Dulcie settled on the Darling Downs where Leonard was a Farmer - initially at Wiyarra and then Emu Vale. Leonard died in 1968 and Dulcie in 2016.
