This is a tribute to my great, great, great grandfather, Lavington White. He was born in Hobart, Tasmania and his date of birth was sometime in 1894.
His mother’s name was Emily White and his father’s name was Lavington White. Before he enlisted for World War 1, he was a linesman and an electrician.
Lav enlisted on January 7th, 1915, in Claremont, Tasmania. When he enlisted he was 21 and 5 months old and eventually, he embarked for France on February 19th, 1915.
He was a gunman in multiple Field Artillery Brigades (FAB). He was first wounded on December the 16th, 1916. It was a gunshot wound in the left buttock. He was in the 24th FAB and they were in France. He was then transported to England on September 18th, 1916.
After that, he married Lily Alberta Moon on October 10th, 1918. The ceremony was at The Established Church and the marriage was solemnized at The Holy Trinity Church in London. They were married by Douglas G. Matthews, Curator. Lavington was later discharged on October 22nd, 1919 because he was medically unfit.
