Colin Brooke
COLIN BROOKE (1892-1951) born at Gundagai, son of Edward and Amelia Annie Brooke nee Pollack. Colin enlisted in the 1st AIF at Goulburn on June 22, 1916, as Private 4256 after four years service in the cadets. After training at Menangle and some time with the Light Horse Depot Regiment, he sailed from Sydney on board the HMAT Afric 119, on November 3rd, 1916 and disembarked at Plymouth on January 1st, 1917. Etaples, Boulgne and Le Havre in France awaited him and he served with the 44th Infantry Battalion and the 29th Infantry 7-12 Reinforcements. Colin was listed for return to Australia on July 23rd, 1919 on the Ulysses. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. The HMAT Afric was of 11,999 tons, average speed of 13 knots – or 24.07 kph and was owned by the Federal Steam navigation Co. Ltd of London. The ship was torpedoed and sunk in the English Channel on February 12th, 1917. [DAVIS OF GOUNYAN - ROLL OF HONOUR - BM Pittman]

Colin was the son of Edward and Amelia Annie Brooke nee Pollack.
He returned to Australia on board the 'Ulysses' in August 1917, and continued to farm with his father until his marriage to Ethel Franklin.
They left Gundagai-Adelong and lived at Rockdale.
