105 years ago today, on the 23rd July 1916, Private Harold William York, 2nd Battalion (Reg No-4286A), labourer from Alfred Street, Waratah, New South Wales, was Killed in Action at the Battle of Pozieres, France, age 19 Years 9 Months.

Born at Muswellbrook, New South Wales on the 21st October 1896 to William Henry (died 1948) and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Florence (died 1951) York of 31 Marguerite Street, Mayfield East, New South Wales and Tudor Street, Hamilton, N.S.W. and 4 Greaves Street, Mayfield East, N.S.W., Harold enlisted August 1915 with the 4th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Mr. York’s name has been inscribed on the Waratah Park Memorial Gates (photos, unveiled on the 23rd February 1921, 68 names originally inscribed, 70 names now inscribed of the Fallen), Waratah & Mayfield Roll of Honour and the St. Mary's-Marist Bros' School (Newcastle) Honour Roll.
