Arthur Francis (Frank) Bruce

Arthur is on Honour Roll at Dubbo Central School for serving in 1914-18 war.

From Dubbo Liberal Tuesday 30 May 1916, page 2. Mr J Bruce of Darling Street, Dubbo on Friday last received the following communication from the Base Records Office, Melbourne:- I regret to advise you that information has been received to the effect that Private AF Bruce, 3rd Battalion is now in a hospital in London (15/5/1916). suffering from ureteric sclerosis. Private Bruce enlisted about 8 months ago in Sydney and his parents have only heard from him once since he landed in Egypt.

From Dubbo Dispatch and Wellington Independent Tuesday 16 January 1917 page 1. Our Soldiers. Private Frank Bruce, brother of Mr Sid Bruce, of Darling Street produce business, returned home from the war yesterday morning, after several months in the trenches on the western front. He looks well, but the strain told on his nervous system and he is now suffering from heart troubles. All honor to the gallant lad and may his rehabilitation be speedy. His brother Jim is 18 months doing his bit, nine months of which term he has spent in France without a spell- a really magnificent service. Another brother, Reg, has just arrived in England. Truly the Dubbo Bruces are living up to the splendid traditions which cluster round the name.

From Dubbo Liberal 29 May, 1917- Patriotic Social to Returned Soldiers- A Welcome Home. A highly successful welcome home social and dance was tendered the returned soldiers of the Dubbo district at the Protestant Hall on Friday night last. There was a large attendance. Arthur Francis (Frank) was named as being one of the returned soldiers entertained.

From 1933 electoral rolls Arthur Francis was recorded as living at 230 Falcon St. Camaray and employed as a labourer.

When Arthur died he was recorded as having been a private in the lst Pioneer Battalion. He had enlisted on 5 August 1915 and embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A7 Medic on 30 December 1915. He returned to Australia 12 November 1916. His service number was 4008. He stated that he was a labourer and his religion was Church of England. When he enlisted he was living at Pine Street, Marrickville and was single. He was 31 years old when he embarked and had named his father J Bruce of Darling Street, Dubbo as his next of kin. On his discharge he was a private in the 1st Pioneer Battalion.
He was noted as having been an esteemed member of the Totally & Permanently Disabled Soldiers Association.
