Biography contributed by Sharyn Roberts

HAROLD ROY LESTER who was killed in action on Gallipoli on 25th April 1915 was the son of Mr. Thomas Lester. He was born in 1893 and was at the Preparatory School from 1903 to 1907 and then went on to Geelong College.

Prior to enlistment he was assisting his father in business and was one of the first to join the Public Schools Company under Captain H. Carter in the 5th Battalion. He got on so well that before crossing the Mediterranean he had been at a rest camp at Alexandria, where he was Honorary Quarter-master Sergeant.

He was at first reported wounded and missing, but it was subsequently ascertained that after landing on the Peninsula he was shot through the head and killed.
