Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Alberta (born in 1903 in Helidon on the Darling Downs in QLD) was the youngest of nine children of Robert Barker (born 1861 in Pickering, Yorkshire, England) and Maria Woodall (born 1859 in Seamer, Yorkshire, England). Robert and Maria married in 1883 in Scarborough, Yorkshire and in 1891 the family immigrated to QLD on board the Tara. Robert and Maria settled in Helidon on the Darling Downs in QLD where Alberta grew up.

Three of her brothers enlisted in WWI - Robert Woodall, Sydney Thompson and Francis Gibson, as did two of her brothers - in law - Patrick Stack and Henry St John King.

Oldest brother Robert Woodall married and settled in Scarborough in Yorkshire after WWI, and Alberta joined her parents and some siblings on a return visit between 1921 and 1927. Alberta worked in England as a Typist, and resumed that occupation on her return to Australia with her family in 1927.

Alberta continued to live in Sandgate, and then Brisbane, QLD and work as a Typist until she enlisted in the Australian Army Women's Medical Services in September 1943. She served as a Sergeant (Service No: QX57453(Q89546) and was Discharged in January 1946.

Alberta was living in Brisbane, QLD and working as a Typist when she met and married Charles Alexander Reis in 1958. Charles was a Mechanic and had served in WWII (Service No: QX39852). They continued to live at Coorparoo in Brisbane until Charles retired in 1974. They retired to Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast in QLD, where Alberta died in 1996 and Charles in 1982
