LATE PRIVATE CARR.
Comrades' and Officers' Sympathy.
Mrs. Carr, of Woolbrook, has received a number of letters from military officers and others concerning the death of her son, Private Ernest Carr who died at Salisbury Plains of heart failure, supervening on an earlier attack of pneumonia.
Captain-Chaplin G. S. Richmond writes, expressing the deepest sorrow and sympathy, at the death of a man, who was well-liked by all, adds that Private Carr had done all
that any soldier could do, and had given his life for his country and all that he held dear. The letter concludes with an earnest wish that the mother and wife of the deceased soldier may be granted the comfort of the Heaven sympathy in their great sorrow. Lieut-Colonel L. J. Morshead, of the 33rd Battalion, write: "I am very grieved to learn of the death of your son, No. 31, Private Ernest Carr. It comes as a surprise, as he was making good progress towards recovery from pneumonia. Death was due to heart failure. His officers had been down to see him two days before his death. His platoon and the regimental band attended his funeral. He was buried with full military honors. Your son was indeed a splendid soldier, always reliable and hard-working, with a keen sense of duty. He was held in the highest esteem and was beloved by all. I wanted you to know how greatly the officer, non-commissioned officers and men feel for yourself and your family in this great loss. All send their most heart- felt sympathy."
Mr. J. Berman, of Woolbrook who sends the above particulars states that he knew the late Private Carr well and can endorse the statements as to his excellent character and manly life. He mentions that Private Jim. Dodds a comrade of the deceased soldier, had a cross erected over his last resting place for which thoughtful and kindly action Mrs.Carr feels deeply grateful.
