Carl (Charles) was the third of five children of Carl August Martin Beyer (born 1891 in Maryborough, QLD) and  Lucy Read (born 1891 in Bundaberg, QLD). Carl and Lucy married in 1914 in Bundaberg, QLD and separated in 1921 following the death of their youngest son.

Charles was working as a Cane Cutter in Bundaberg, QLD when he enlisted - initially in the ACMF (1941 - 1943) and then in the Australian Army in 1943, Charles served as a Private (Service No: QX53303) in New Guinea and was Discharged in 1946. Charles returned to Bundaberg, QLD and worked as a Greaser and an Engine Driver, Charles died in Bundaberg, QLD in 1989 in Bundaberg, QLD
