Biography contributed by Faithe Jones
Corporal E. W. DURDIN, who has died of wounds in France, was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Durdin, Pata, late of Normanville. He enlisted from Hamley Bridge in July, 1915, and sailed for Egypt with the 32nd Battalion on January 11, 1916. He was transferred from Egypt to France as a gunner in the heavy trench mortar battery the following July. Shortly afterwards he was promoted to be bombardier. He sustained contusion and shell shock in the battle of Bullecourt in May, 1917, and was invalided to England. Four months later he returned to France, and joined the Medium Trench Mortar Battery. He was promoted corporal in January, 1918. His cheerful disposition won him many friends.
