Jack was the only child of Ernest Albert Bonney (born 1889 in Brisbane, QLD) and Magdalena Maria Christina Gentner (born 1887 in Brisbane, QLD). Edward was a Carpenter in Caboolture, QLD when he married Magdalena in Brisbane in 1914. 

Jack was a Labourer at Kedron in Brisbane when he enlisted in March 1941. He was a Lance Bombardier (Service Nos:QX44869/Q11945) attached to 141 Heavy Anti Aircraft Battery when he was Discharged in October 1945. Brother-in-Law Stanley Gordon Wild (Private; Service No:Q143578) also served in WWII.

In 1943 Jack married Nancy Butler Wild (born 1915 in Ipswich, QLD) in Brisbane - Nancy was a Typist. Jack and Nancy settled in Brisbane where Jack worked as a Labourer and Shop Assistant. Jack died in 1982 and Nancy died in 2006.
