Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of  Samuel and Julia LATIMER, 13 Daisy Street, Essendon, Victoria

"I knew casualty.  He was a man about 5 ft 8ins, well built, dark complexion, about 20 years of age, known as "Bert".  A shrapnel shell exploded near Casualty a piece entering the back of his left arm.  As soon as he was hit he said "I'm done" and died immediately afterwards.  I was 10 yds away from Casualty at the time of his death. He was buried 20 yds from where he was killed and his helmet was placed over his grave to indicate the spot and I helped to bury him.
