Charles
Charles William Brooker was born on 8th March, 1915, in Acton, Middlesex, England. He was Christened on 4th April, 1915, in Acton. While residing in Ayr, Charlie was employed making concrete tubs. He married 16th March, 1938 to Millicent Fox. Joined the 2nd A.I.F on 26-07-1940 in MIOWERA (Bowen QLD) Middle East: (Syria-Lebanon Campaign) 07-04-1941 to 10-03-1942 (338 days) New Guinea: (Kokoda & Buna-Gona) 31-08-1942 to 19-01-1943 (142 days) New Guinea: (Salamaua-Lae & Finisterre Range) 19-07-1943 to 16-02-1944 (213 days) Borneo: (Balikpapan) 06-06-1945 to 19-11-1945 (167 days)
In the 1960’s he worked as a chainman for Jim Kane. A surveyor. He helped to survey the line of road from Shute Harbour to Airlie Beach & also worked at making the 1st jetty at Shute Harbour. He later worked for the Proserpine mill. Charlie loved his vegetable garden & was a keen fisherman. He marched proudly on ANZAC day with his friends. He spent the last years of his life in the Cunningham Villas in Bowen, an aged home run by the RSL.
