Youngest of three brothers who served in WWII, Warrant Officer II Reginald Lawrence Brunner (Service No:QX5557) enlisted in the AIF on 21 May 1940 as a Private attached to 2 Motor Ambulance Convoy - classified Nursing Orderly. Private Brunner was attached to 2/2 Casualty Clearing Station (CCS) on 21 December 1940 when he embarked with his Unit for the Middle East. Private Brunner served in Palestine, Libya and Tobruk, embarking from the Middle East for Adelaide on 24 March 1942 on board SS Mathuna. Sergeant Brunner was attached to 2/2 CCS when he embarked from Brisbane for Port Moresby on 25 September 1942, and was tranferred to the Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit (ANGAU) in November 1942. Sergeant Brunner - appointed WOII on 15 August 1944 - served with the ANGAU until 2 August 1945 (with leave breaks in Australia). WO Brunner was attached to ANGAU at Discharge on 10 September 1945.
Born in Toowoomba, QLD in 1914, Reg was eleventh of twelve children of Frederick Brunner (b1868 at Middle Ridge, Toowoomba, QLD) and Friederica Wilhelmine Flegler (b1873 at Middle Ridge, Toowoomba, QLD). Frederick (a Licensed Firewood Cutter and Labourer) Friederica married 1892 in Toowoomba, where they settled and raised their family and Frederick worked as a Labourer.
Reg was a Male Nurse at Willowburn Mental Hospital in Toowoomba in 1933 when he married Dapne May Sheriff (b1913 in Toowoomba, QLD). Reg and Dapne settled in Toowoomba, where they raised their family. Reg was a Nurse at the Willoburn Hospital in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army. He and Dapne divorced - Daphne remarried in 1946 - and Reg worked as a Taxi Driver in Toowoomba, where he died in 1967.
