Son of John Urquhart and Margaret Urquhart nee McHutchison of 'Craigston', Coppin Street, East Malvern, Victoria.

Brother of Torquil Harold Urquhart who returned to Australia on 25 August 1919 having served with the 39th Battalion; Angus McBeath Urquhart who returned to Australia on 5 August 1916 having served with the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade

12 April 1916 - enlisted at Melbourne, Victoria, with the 21st Battalion and with the rank of Private.

3 August 1917 - promoted to Lance Corporal

4 October 1917 - wounded in action. Wound to the back

14 April 1918 - wounded in action, second occasion.
